.. Studying in New York...

The past few days...
When people respond to me... "Oh! that's so amazing.. I wish I can go to New York to study to.."
I roll my eyes.

Because they don't know what kinda hell I have to go through to prep for my leave to NY...

Yesterday (WED), I had to get my 'up grades' in my immunization.
Since I haven't taken my needles in a long time...
Apparently, I need all that in order to 'start' school...
Being born in HK, there are some conflicts as to my immunization record...
So I ended up with frick 5 to 6 shots.. and couple skin tests...

Housing on the other hand proves to be quite a drag too...
Since I'm not relying on student housing...
I need to look for a place just close enough to the school,
but close enough to a subway line that I can travel to Manhatten for my work internships.
While keeping under $600 US/month in rent.
If any body have tried looking for rent and places for school or work...
Looking for them in NYC is absolutely insane...

On top of that, I have to plan how I'm going to live down in NY,
what to bring... the necessities... blah blah blah...
Most importantly is my computer..
Oh yeah, I'm building a NEW one for me to go down with..
The one I have now, will be given to my mom..
Her 'decade-old-beast' (computer) will be retired for good...
So I get to have a new computer... since it'll be a source of 'bread & butter' for me...

My tentitive plan as of yet is to leave around the weekend of the 21st of July...
I would spot check a few place before I decide on leasing it...
Since alot of housing are taken up fast, I have to get there early and get a place to stay before it's too late...
I would be working on projects that I still have in my hands and also with my new intern position..
So I get a chance to settle down and get used to the life there before school starts..

more to update..

But there are some new stuff on my site...

enjoy...

WEBSITE REBUILT

I'm RE-STRUCTURING my website...
especially my portoflio... Putting NEWER stuff, and taking out some of the old stuff..
Cause I might have to rely on this website as my on-line portfolio for interviews...
Or unless something happens to my hard copy when I get down to NY...
It'll be my 'show' for bread and butter sorta speak...
so be patience while I redo the site...

Good News and Bad News...

As I am preparing for New York for the next month or two... as expected....Things are going to be real dicey...

Good News... is that I have received confirmation that a working position is available for me in a good packaging design house..BUT the bad News...is that I don't have student housing...

The time I was in New York, I visted couple design studios... So depending on how my acceptance is for the school, I would tell them once I was accepted.
So I wrote an emailed to one I though would be most worth while in working for...
As it turned out, my work was appreciated... So I'm offered a part-time position.. 2~3 times a week... just exactly what I would want...

the housing story is quite simple and sad... student housing is full and taken... I'm on waiting list... so it looks as if I'll have to look for housing outside the campus ground...

So next week... On top of the work I'm busy with.. namely the 10s and 10s of packaging projects I have + the Speaker design in phase 3... I'll be calling all contacts available on earth for any available 'safe, affortable, and well-located' housing...

You DANG right I'll be stressed...
If anybody knows anybody in NYC.. give me a holla...

... Wooo Hooo...
Been so busy working on the Acoustic Speaker Project.. [Mirage Speaker Brand]
One of these speaker cost up to $8,000 to $12,000
Anyways, the meeting today was absolutely amazing..
The long hard work on the design paid off…
Took me all night to compile all my designs for presentation.
Not only did the client like it, they commented that the design was the most esthetically beautiful and innovative design in the product market yet. Could even enter some designer competition in Europe and US, too.
Due to fact that it’s still in design & development stage, I can’t disclose any visuals for y’all to see. However, I will be able to post it on-line till its production launch on the market late next year.
That's the down-side of this field. You design something so beautiful, but can’t tell people until it’s released (unless you’re reeeeaaaal close with me, hee hee).

Anyways, write more later…

WHAT I”VE BEEN UP TO...

First off, thank you for all your congratulations..
I've been busy working still.. Packaging designs and a speaker design project still in the designing phase...
I may put up some new packaging designs I did...
But the speaker designs I may have to delay that for a while.. a long while..
It would be a breach of confidentiality if I were to disclose any concept design work...

I might update some of the stuff I sent for the Grad school Portfolio..
If I have time to scan them..

I've been also doing my account and taxes..
Drving me up the wall!!

I've also been busy preparing for going down.
What I’m to do with my car, work projects, and things that I’m tied down here in Toronto.
Getting out contacts in the design field in NY and Cali..
Planning out how I am to spent my 3+ years time for this Grad studies.
Getting things in order since I have 2 months to get ready…
School starts in Sept. 2nd, and I’ll have to leave a week prior to register and set-up..
So time is running out as usual…

Ya see, in this field, it’s all about field experience.
My plans have to take advantage of the Student VISA to take as much internship opportunities in the States. Not only in NY, but in the east and west coast as well.. maybe Chicago and swing over to LA, Palo Alto, San Fran., Seattle, and many more places… I can also take opportunity of the student exchange program in Pratt and maybe go to Europe and intern in the design studios there…
