RENT STORIES

Finding Housing in New York is totally crazy...
It's been quite an experience to say the least...
And it is really too bad that I didn't bring my digicam with me to take pictures at all the places I've seen...

some stories that came across my head that I can share...

"Ex-Army" POstal Man
Here was a place I looked up on a ad...
I went to this Classy looking 3 floor apartment...
This guy was an army soldier that took a postal service work...
He took me up to his place and it totally look like a place of war..
It was stacked with weapons of leathal firearms and army equipment.
He had his clothing... plus underwear all neatly folded on metal mesh shelves... This guy is a total hard core...
He was asking me questions about my profile as if I'm good enough to join his own little private army core or something...
What freaked me out the most was the fact that he was kinda following me afterwards with his postal service car and hounding after me to see if I would take his place... I made my decision on the spot .. NO!

Other places were nice, I saw some wicked looking lofts near by that were awesome... I'll be looking out for those...

To sum it up, one week of time couldn't allow me to find good housing. Brooklyn is an area where one street could be nice and the around the courner, it's something else... So I'll be staying somewhere far away.. would have to look for a place slowly as time progress...

But from what I see so far... The straight guys are really dirty and messy... and the gay guys are really clean... but really gay... call be old fashion, but I can't go with neither...

In New York

I've arrived and looking for housing...
New York is totally something else I tell ya...
Neways, my status is that I need to get a place ASAP..
I have a job that's waiting for me to start..
it's really a beautiful office... cosy, and right in SOHO..
so when I'm tired of work, I can go out for a coffee and chill and look at stuff all over SOHO...

All packed up and ready to Gooooooooo!

I'm sitting here... all packed up…
The count…
4 boxes, 1 luggage, and 2 bags.
One table, one lamp, and a box of instant noodle.

Sitting in front of my computer... looking up on some more New York housing rental On-line...
Leaning against my leather office chair and looking back at the boxes…

My parents are asleep... Elaine is sound asleep in my guest room...

As I sit back, thoughts flood to my head…
I go through a long still silent session in my head every time I make a long travel…
Listening to God…
…listening to my reflective thoughts…
I would never have thought leaving Toronto would be so grabby to my heart...
Am I Excited?... yes a little... hard to let go... surprisingly... yes...
I was raised from a family that travels frequently… ‘pick up and go’ sorta speak…
I never had problems letting go…
But this time is different…

I naturally hate saying goodbyes…
I also like to leave without much announcements…
I like to leave things as I remember them…

I drove around Toronto all day this morning, just turning from corners to corners…
Seeing the city one last time sorta thing…
Had a chance to look at downtown Harbor Front one last time… since I grew up there…
Can’t believe how time flies…

It’s been almost over 2 years since I’ve took on the determination in pursuing towards the field of industrial design …
1 year ago…since I busted my ass working on my portfolio every night…
6 months since I had sent my portfolio to apply to the schools of my choice…
2 months ago that I had decided to take my studies in New York…
6 hours till I pick-up my rental car and leave Toronto by road to New York…

For the next week or so…
I’ll be hunting for my housing…
I hope to be settled in my 4 walls in one week time from today (Aug 3rd)
And quickly start my work in SOHO Manhattan…
I’ll take lots of pictures, and post them up for all to see…
Stay tune for my adventures in NEW YORK!!!
For those who know me well… great stories are never far from me…
= )

Signing off…
B

Old School...

The first school that I ever attended when I landed as a FOB to Canada was the Toronto Island Natural Science School.
My parents were worried about me adjusting to the Canadian schooling system and wanted me to integrate into the Canadian culture as quickly as possible…
So!! Why not sent me to a school where I was the only oriental on the ENTIRE island…
For those who don’t know… It’s the school that is on the Toronto Island… off of lakeshore, downtown…
…I remember I used to take the ferry across to the island to school every morning …
The schooling I thought was great... natural science, and the life of the islanders… Being away from the city on an island was quite something…

On Wednesday, I went with Elaine to go back and visit. It brought back a lot of memories… since it was the very first school I ever went to in Canada.
Although I later found out that the old building had been transformed to a center for creative and design studios… Funny who I’m going off to NY to study design…
I was hoping to find any memorabilia like old pictures and stuff… Unfortunately, a caretaker was there and told me that the funding to the school had been so low that they dropped the whole natural science program there…

All in all, it struck a lot of good old memories…

BUSY @$$ WEEK…

I’ve been busy for the past weeks on my audio speaker design for Audio Product International…
And as I mention before, the last proposal concept was promoted to as the flagship series of Mirage… meaning the highest production series of the company…
So a lot of pressure was on at yesterday meeting… since all VPs and the president was to be present… along with an investor advisor… since being a private company with hardcore contributing investors from around the globe, API is very well funded…
I stayed up late many nights, and pulled an all nighter on Wednesday night..
Meeting on Thursday was great and the proposal was adored from all around the room…
I even had to leave the room prior for them to have a private consensus meeting after the presentation…
Every comment was positive and filled with excitement…
Now the next step is fine tuning the construction details that would execute the design as proposed… things like testing the design for acoustic perforation and structure capacity… Production/part tooling, material selection and assembly… All a bunch of structural & technical analysis…
May even have to make a trip to Asia to do some manufacturing approval inspections…
That would be worth the experience…

As for my NY itinerary…
I’m schedule now for my departure on July 27 morning departure…
Rent a car.. 4x4 or something.. and drive down…
Hopefully I’ll secure housing when I get down there…

Summer Conference at Brock University
Been a while since I last went to a summer conference...
But this may be my last summer conference for a long time...
With all that is going on with my studies in NY and internships in this profession...

Going to Niagra Falls was quite nice...
Since it's been a while for me that I've been to the Falls...
It was certainly beautiful... and one of the true wonder's of the world...
