PORTFOLIO UPDATE

I've spent some time redid some stuff and started a new system in viewing my process development on my product designs..
I will start finding some goodways to scan my renderings and sketches...
So my process from ideation to final will be more clear...

enjoy...

MIDTERM OVER...

Finally done...
There was tons of work to say the least...
As oppose to just writing a 20 page research paper, or reading and prepping for a 300+ questions multiple question exams…
I have all that and more…
Worst of all, every class is different…
For Form studies class, we have a lot geometric studies, and theory…
So we have to build and sculpt various geometric compositions forms to validate our understanding on the theory in ‘form & elements’…

Then I have courses that dealt with manufacturing and production methods in industrial design…
This course goes over manufacturing processes of all types of material and manufacturing engineering.
We are tested on our understanding and problem solving on varies of production methods on materials from plastics and metal. Things like aluminum extrusion, sand casting, die/mold casting, injection molding, etc.

In addition, I have CNC (lathe, mill, & grinder), rapid prototyping…
And rapid prototype processes… Stereolithography Apparatus, Selective Laser Sintering, Fused Deposition Modeling, 3D Printing, and Objet Polyjet...
Rapid Prototyping is a process in which a computer model is ‘formed’ into a physical model… whether it be a process using photosensitive resin cured by a laser or using molten plastics or wax extruded in a cross sectional geometry layer by layer…
Thus, I have to be fluent in the computer software that would translate a computer generated model to a physical prototype… software like Pro-engineer Wildfire, Solidworks, Mechanical Cad…

Other courses focus solely on our development, as today’s designer, on the importance of directed research. This encompasses strategies and formulas that help direct the evolution to the design process.

Obviously, we also have product design projects
From designing to presenting an actual physical prototyping
<--I have an example image on the left…

Aside from just having the design made, we also have to discuss the manufacturing-economic solutions and, and user-centered designs that is incorporated in the product I have designed. Fabricating a marketing business strategy in launching the product into the market is also crucial.

Anyways, I’m glad the midterms are done…
Now I can get back to my work projects which will be launch at the Consumer Electronic Show… on Jan 8/04…

blah blah blah

Just some catch-up...
I've been busy as usual...
School is going through mid-terms, so that's going crazy...
School projects on top of projects...

Work has been totally crazy also..
In the middle of designing a new product,
and finishing up a mechanical drawing for the past speaker designs.
In doing so, I had to really get into the niddy-griddy of mechanical engineering drafting...
These are times I wish I had an engineering undergrad...
But then my thinking in design would have suffered if I had gone through that ordeal...
Most engineers I find that I'm working with have no design sense...
No offense to those who ARE in engineering...
But some I worked with, are from Stanford or Cal Tech and Waterloo…
They all seem to just execute the mechanical element without much comprehension in regards to the ‘look’ or design…
I understand they are taught to apply ‘function before form’ in their work, but it has to ‘sell’ too…
… sometimes it feels like baby sitting every time they come back with me with their drawings… and I have to redo the way they draw out their curves…
So.. I’ve been forced to learn the 3D mechanical drafting programs myself and draw them myself…
I have to do a lot of mechanical analysis myself also… which drove my head crazy..

Anyways, with all these work, I have school and my other work in the Manhattan firm…
4 letters…
B.U.S.Y..

I also had the amazing opportunity to go to a friend’s uncle’s Condo called Liberty Tower. It’s located in the middle of the Financial District. It’s about a block away from the old World Trade Center, so it cost around anywhere from 5 to 8 million … He also hired a well-known NY architect for around a million or so to renovate his place. He also bought the space on the floor on top, so it’s a two level condo…

Anyways, I’ve been invited on a fancy cruise and dinner with a bunch of his friends, follow by dessert back at this place on Friday… it’s going to be interesting…

COMING HOME!!!!!!!!!

I'll be coming back for the weekend..
Woo HOo..
Get to come back to my sweetie Elaine...

In addition, I also have to come back up
to discuss on a few New product projects..
And my speaker project also have to be
fine-tune for a prototype to show at this
year's CES (consumer electronic show)
in Las Vagas... I also will be going to it
next year this coming Jan.

So I can't wait, and also very excited..

Anyways, I haven't been updating
but once I get a control of things.. I
... but I'll will start again..

....but balancing an intense school program
with 2 jobs is totally crazy...
