WHERE HAVE I BEEN?
I've been extremely busy to say the least..
I pretty DO NOT sleep from Tuesday through Friday…
Classes have bulked up in work…
In addition, I have also started writing my master thesis proposal...
Just when I thought my past thesis on my Bachelor, I get to do another one…
BUT... this one would be purely out of my desire, something I really want to spent the next 2 years researching on…
Master Thesis in Industrial Design is something Pratt pays special attention to…
They make it to a point that it be the best publication on a piece of paper.
Many thesis advisors also sit on top of us, every single phase of the process to ensure all inquiries in your thesis subject matter are met.
My school load would only be worst next semester…
But then, this is something I love… so it should be worth it in the end…
One notable news is, (if all things go according to plan and schedule), I will embark on a 6 week adventure back to the far east this summer (finally…)
I’ve also been pushing off this trip for the longest time, because of school, work, or working my ass off to submit for my graduate programs.
I’ve traveled since I was 3 and never stopped at one place longer than 6 months…
So what makes this time any different?
Well, this time I get to actually go with a special someone, a significant other…
I’ve always wanted that someone to share all my adventures with…
And for once in my lifetime, I get to do that…
And for someone like Elaine, who have never ventured outside of the Eastern Time Zone, it is definitely something BIG for her too…
So we are totally excited that we get to have a crazy summer together this year…
But this trip is part work/business than play… as all my trips are, they are never for strictly personal…
I will be heavily concentrating on looking at all the major manufacturing processes and operations in China… Since a industrial design must always be in touch of all the latest manufacturing methods in order to successfully produce their designs from drawing and CG rendering come to reality… If you knew some of the techniques Apple Computer goes about in making their products, and compare them to conventional manufacturing, you would then understand why their price margin is so much higher… I had to sit through a 5 hour seminar on the production methods of all the Apple innovative manufacturing techniques… For all you engineers, I’m sure all you would enjoy that…
Anyways, I gotta bounce and hit the studio and finish CNC another part for my prototype…

UPDATE...
I went in to my SOHO office today and got to open the production model for the 2004 Christmas Packaging designs I did for M&M...
These were the first few test production models made...
Don't you love those cute chocolate characters... turned out really well...
For any designer, it is that sweet couple of seconds that we enjoy most when get to see that sucker you've design in a production model...
Knowing that you've been sitting your ass designing for days and weeks and sometimes even a year.
And for this design for M&M...
It was like Christmas Day again while I rip and shead away the FedEx package to get the production model sent from M&M...
and you know...
Everything pays off in that 2 ~ 8 seconds, when you stand back and go.. ahhhhhh....
and you forget all those hours sitting on your ass for hours on Photoshop hacking at those M&M suckers...
even though I get to try out their many different M&M samples and test sample products...
I'm glad I got such a fun interesting project to work on though...
Now I'm apart of a M&M characters legacy...

Anyways...
I'm back and as busy as usual..
2 jobs and full time school...
School is pretty good this year, I'm happy with the courses I'm taking..
One is Advance Product, it focuses upon the design development cycle and advances design phases... while interfacing with the latest production methods, technologies, operations and management.
Second one is the Advance Alias StudioTools... basically a 3D design program... gotta love Alias...
Third is the Three Dimensional Study and Analysis... and continuation study of form, lines, surfaces, space...
Forth is a Direct Research, this course covers from angles of anthropology and ethnography, to ergonomics and bio mimicry … pretty intense class…
And last course is a production method course, specializing in Plastics, learning from the chemically properties and structures to production applications and material engineering… It’s pretty much back to the days of organic chemistry classes… except it’s all on the polymerization processes…
Work is hectic…
Have to start working at the Manhattan SOHO office again..
And work back home with my company is getting busy also…
Not much time to slow down or turning off my brain…
When I’m not in class, I’m working, when I’m not working I’m in the studio…
And when I’m walking to class or going to work,
I think of all the projects in my head, and sketch them in my head while I’m not sitting down, and when I’m sitting down for lunch or subway, I’ll be sketching them down in my sketch pad…
The only free time for my head is when I go unconscious…
Good thing I don’t dream, or else I’d be screwed…
Life in NY is ‘life on the fast lane’…
I’m not really for it, but at this stage of my life,
I guess I have to be as aggressive as possible,
And stack as much beef under my resume…
What if I write ‘capable of surviving New York’ as one of the work proficiency?
I should get some kind of acknowledgment for that..
You think?
